Children, Youth, and Families

Family Ministry

Family ministry at Salem encompasses ministry with children, youth and families of all kinds.  We have monthly family activities based on fellowship and fun.  In addition we look to ways of incorporating young families into the life of the church through worship, fellowship, and service.

Sunday School (pre-school – 5th grade)

Sunday School is an excited time for pre-school and elementary aged children to explore the bible in a variety of ways. The classrooms follow lessons that move through the bible starting with creation and ending with Revolutions while coving everything in between. One story is covered each Sunday, the stories are told multiple times throughout the lesson in differing ways so children are able to experience the many different learning styles. Each class hears the stories aloud, watches a film, and makes a craft all around the lessons for the day. Sunday school is every Sunday from 9:45-10:45 between the two Sunday church services.

Youth Forum (6th- 12th Grades)

Our Middle School and High School Students have the great opportunity to meet  on Sunday mornings in our Youth Forum for topical discussions, bible study, fellowship, and fun.  We discuss topics that meet youth where they are at as well as where they are going.  Topics like bullying, sin, discipleship, spiritual gifts, and love are regularly on the menu.  It is also a great time to grow together with other young people who believe the same things and who are walking together on their journeys of faith.

Confirmation (6th – 8th Grades)

Centuries ago, when the baptism of infants became commonplace in the church, confirmation was developed as a way to train adolescents and young adults in the basics of the faith.  Three years of l instruction in Scripture, the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, sacraments and the Christian life, along with worship and service experiences, prepare young people to affirm their baptism in worship and be welcomed and celebrated as full members of the community.

Confirmation is traditionally for middle school students, though adults who have been baptized but not confirmed and younger students with demonstrated maturity and interest can also be included at the discretion of the pastor.  Confirmation takes place on Wednesday evenings beginning with dinner at 5:30 pm and class from 6-7:10 pm. Please contact Amanda Adam  if you are interested in enrolling your child or yourself.

High School Youth Group (9th – 12th grade)

High School Youth meets every Wednesday at 6:00pm in the youth room.  This is a time for gathering and taking part in topical discussions, bible study, fellowship events, games, outings, service events, and lots of food and fun.
