Volunteer Opportunities – Worship

May 8th, 2017

Acolytes are responsible for lighting and extinguishing all altar candles before and after church services. Volunteers are needed as leaders and helpers who coordinate training of all youth in grades 5-8 for acolyte duties.

Altar care

Altar Guild is made up of church volunteers who prepare the altar area for regular, special and communion services. Volunteers are needed for Saturday set-up, Sunday Communion set-up for both services and clean up after the 11:00 a.m. service.

There are many opportunities for those who would like to participate in vocal or instrumental music to enhance the worship service. We offer Jubilee Ringers Bell Choir, Chancel Choir and Children’s Bells Choirs. We also welcome solo, small group, and instrumental special music.

At each worship service, volunteers stand at the entrance to the sanctuary and greet the worshippers as they enter. This helps members get better acquainted with one another and allows us to identify visitors and help them feel welcome in our community.

As a Lay Reader, you will have the opportunity to read scripture during the service and assist in other ways as needed.

Liturgists help to lead the sung portions of the worship service and may be asked to lead the prayers, serve communion, and assist in other ways as needed.

Communion Servers

Our Communion Servers serve the bread and wine to the congregation on the first and thirds Sundays of the month, at both services, as well as at special services.

The sanctuary features a state-of-the-art 24-channel sound system which needs to be operated at each worship service. Sound operators may also assist with special music, concerts, weddings, funerals and meetings where microphones are needed. Orientation and training are available to those interested.

When you usher at Salem you are the first person a visitor meets when coming in the door. Your greeting of friendship and spirit of helpfulness conveys that very important first impression. Members and friends of Salem also look forward to your welcome. Whatever you can do to make people feel welcome will support their receptivity to the service of worship. Think of your role as that of a host or hostess welcoming a guest into your home. If possible, arrive at least thirty minutes before the service begins.

Fellowship Hour

Coffee Hour is a time of fellowship that follows each of the Sunday worship services. Individuals and groups volunteer throughout the year to host Fellowship Hour by making coffee, providing treats and taking care of clean-up.

Special Music

Do you have a special musical talent? Members and friends are invited to perform music during our services, especially for holidays. Musicians may perform vocal, instrumental or mixed pieces, solo or in groups. Our organist / pianist will be available to accompany performers. If you are interested in sharing your gifts, please contact the pastor, choir director, or organist.
