Sunday Morning Worship @ 9:30 am
Located in West St. Paul

This year’s Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, January 31st at 11:00 am. The meeting will be held via Zoom and it’s very important that everyone attend and participate. We still need a quorum in order to hold the meeting. If you need help setting up Zoom on your computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc., please call the church office and we’ll be happy to help out. If you do not have access to a device compatible with Zoom, you can also call into the meeting. Please fee free to reach out with any questions. Please let us know if you absolutely cannot access the meeting remotely, we can accommodate a small group of people in the building the day of the meeting.

Happy New Year Salem Folks! This e-mail is not a link to video worship or message, but is does contain some important congregational business.

The ELCA keeps a model constitution for all the churches. After ELCA assemblies, this model constitution can be updated to show the changes and improvements that were agreed upon. Then, every congregation needs to update their own constitution to include the requirements from the ELCA.

That is what we are doing here. We are updating our Salem Constitution to match the requirements in the ELCA model. We are not changing the way we operate at Salem or changing our church structure.

One of the votes at the Annual Congregational meeting (January 31 online with Zoom) will be to approve the proposed constitutional changes. Because everyone needs a chance to see this document well in advance of the meeting, the new proposed constitution is attached to this e-mail as a pdf file.

The new constitution is double the number of pages when compared to our old constitution and bylaws. We have to give great thanks to Elaine Hause for wrangling all these words into something that makes sense. Please use this link to view the document: 2020 SALEM PROPOSED CONSTITUTION

Finally, if you are not able to use the website or absolutely need a paper copy, you can call the church office and Michelle will print a copy for you to pick up.

The proposed constitution includes all of our church structure that was contained in our old bylaws. The bylaws are still there, but merged into the new document so that bylaw sections and constitution sections on the same topic are together. Elaine has provided some color coding in the proposed document to help explain the structure. Look over her helper letter (second page of the document) to understand the system. For those who desire to compare the proposed constitution and bylaws to the old, the old (meaning the ones we have now) you can use this link to view it: SALEM’S CURRENT CONSTITUTION.

So that’s a lot! Please look over the proposed constitution so you can vote for it as recommended by the Church Council.  And. . . . get ready to Zoom into the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 31st at 11:00 am right after online worship.
